This project focused on creating a fully immersive, to-scale VR walkthrough of a home. Utilizing advanced architectural and visualization tools, the walkthrough allowed users to explore the home in a virtual environment, providing an accurate sense of scale, materials, and design elements.

Timeline   3 months
Role          Creator, Designer, 3D Modeler
Goals       I created this project while working at Applied Minds. I had two goals for this project: 1. I wanted to further develop my architecture and 3D-tool skills and was using this as a training exercise to first learn the tools needed to work on my assigned tasks at the company (~ 1 week of learning fast) and to ensure the greatest quality of work as I continued sharpening my skills & 2. I wanted to design a home with an architectural story that aligned with my culture and design theory.

Tools         Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Programs Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Twinmotion

Design Brainstorm

I
began the project by researching architectural styles and gathering inspiration to inform the home’s layout and aesthetic. This step ensured that the design was not only functional but also visually appealing. I made sure every design and aesthetic choice was intentional / had a clear purpose and step towards my overarching vision.

Material Application in TwinMotion

In TwinMotion, I applied a range of materials and finishes to different areas of the home, giving it a realistic, detailed appearance.

Floor Plan & 3D Structure

I started working in 3D by designing to-scale floor plans in Revit, followed by creating the complete 3D structure of the home.

Landscape & Environment in Cinema4D

I used Cinema4D to create the surrounding landscape and environment, adding natural elements such as vegetation and outdoor features. Despite limited time and unfamiliarity with the software, I completed this task with minimal glitches.

Model Preparation

After building the 3D model, I exported it to SketchUp, where I color-coded various sections to prepare for the material application. This step was crucial in maintaining consistency across different software.

Final VR Walkthrough

I re-imported the model into TwinMotion and used an Oculus headset to create a fully immersive VR walkthrough. This allowed users to experience the home design in a highly interactive and realistic way.

I created a fully immersive VR walkthrough that enabled users to experience the design of the home as if they were physically walking through it, and I d
elivered a high-fidelity 3D model with realistic materials, finishes, and environmental elements, enhancing the overall user experience.

One of the main challenges was mastering Cinema4D in a short period to design the landscape and environment. Despite these constraints, I successfully completed the task with only a few minor visual imperfections.

This project taught me the importance of adaptability and creative problem-solving, particularly when working with unfamiliar tools. I gained valuable experience in integrating multiple design platforms to create a cohesive, interactive virtual environment.
